About Origin & Cup

Origin & Cup is an independent site about making better coffee at home. We cover three things: the gear you brew with, how to brew it well, and the origins your coffee comes from.

How we research

Our guides are built from primary information: manufacturer specifications and manuals, published standards (such as the Specialty Coffee Association’s brewing guidelines and brewer certification), peer-reviewed research, public health guidance, and long-term owner reports. We compare models on the specs that change what ends up in your cup — burr design, temperature control, filter type — rather than on marketing claims.

What we will never do

• Invent hands-on testing. If we haven’t used a product ourselves, we won’t say we did. When we do test something, we’ll say exactly how.
• Rank products by commission. Retailer payouts don’t decide what we recommend or in what order.
• Publish origin facts without sources. Every ORIGIN article lists its sources and is checked by a human editor before it goes live.

Corrections

Coffee knowledge moves on, and products change. If you spot an error or something out of date, message us on Instagram and we’ll review it and update the page, noting the change date at the top.
